Brazzaville announcement sets the tone
Brazzaville, Jan. 29 (ACI) — Bertrand Bakana, president of the National Movement for the Patriots of Congo (MNPC), has announced in Brazzaville that he intends to run in the presidential election scheduled for March, the Agence Congolaise d’Information reported (ACI).
Speaking during an extraordinary assembly of his party, Bakana framed the decision as a political step taken after internal discussions, while indicating that a separate media event will be organised to make the announcement in a more formal setting (ACI).
MNPC highlights its footprint across Congo
Bakana described the MNPC as an opposition political party represented in 15 departments of the Republic of the Congo, presenting this national presence as a base from which to approach an election campaign (ACI).
He also recalled that the party has been officially recognised since 2005 through the issuance of a receipt, a detail highlighted to underline the MNPC’s longstanding legal status in the political landscape (ACI).
Election deposit: party appeals to supporters
A central point of the extraordinary assembly was the practical requirement tied to presidential candidacy. Bakana asked members and activists to contribute toward the 25 million CFA francs deposit required for the filing of a presidential application (ACI).
He argued that, in view of what he presented as his ambitions and vision for the country, support should extend beyond party circles, calling on Congolese citizens to play their part as a sign of backing for what he described as a desire to change things in Congo-Brazzaville (ACI).
Next step: a press conference to formalise the bid
According to ACI, the party meeting reviewed organisational arrangements for a future press conference during which Bakana’s candidacy will be officially announced.
For many voters, such a press conference is typically a moment where a candidate clarifies priorities, campaign messaging and mobilisation plans. In this case, ACI reports only that the MNPC has discussed the modalities for holding the event.
A campaign shaped by rules and mobilisation
Bakana’s announcement also highlights how election participation depends not only on political positioning, but on meeting administrative and financial conditions. The 25 million CFA francs deposit, cited by ACI, becomes an early test of the MNPC’s capacity to mobilise resources.
With the presidential election set for March, the pace of preparation is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, especially as parties and candidates move from internal meetings to public messaging. In Bakana’s case, ACI indicates the MNPC is preparing that transition through its planned press conference.
