Brazzaville solidarity visit draws attention
Brazzaville, Jan. 12 (ACI) — A delegation from the Congolese Labour Party (PCT), led by Pauline Issongo, carried out a solidarity visit in the capital on Jan. 9, providing food supplies to several orphanages and centres hosting senior citizens.
The outreach, held across multiple neighbourhoods, was framed by the delegation as a practical gesture aimed at supporting vulnerable residents, including children without parental care and older people living with limited resources.
Food supplies delivered to Poto-Poto and Mfilou sites
During the visit, the delegation delivered a wide range of food items, including cassava in various forms, bananas, potatoes, rice, beef, game meat, sheep, and groundnuts.
Part of the supplies went to the Paul Kamba hospice in Poto-Poto, Brazzaville’s 3rd arrondissement. Another delivery was made to the Saint Joseph orphanage of Gaston Céleste in Mfilou, in the city’s 7th arrondissement.
More orphanages and shelters receive donations
The delegation also visited Notre Dame de l’Annonciation orphanage in Loua, located in Madibou, the 8th arrondissement. Additional stops included the Béthanie reception centre in Moungali and Notre Dame de Nazareth orphanage in Mpila, in Poto-Poto’s 3rd arrondissement.
The tour continued to Talangaï, Brazzaville’s 6th arrondissement, where the delegation delivered supplies to the orphanage known as Les Œuvres de la Foi. The sequence of visits highlighted a citywide approach rather than support focused on a single location.
PCT links donations to party congress contributions
Issongo said the food supplies were brought in by various PCT federations on the occasion of the party’s 6th ordinary congress, held from Dec. 27, 2025, to Jan. 1, 2026.
“We thought of elderly people in need and children who are abandoned or orphaned, who should benefit from these food supplies,” she said, presenting the distribution as a direct way to share resources collected during the congress period.
Solidarity presented as a political value in action
Issongo argued that a political party that does not engage in social action cannot build a solid foundation. She described solidarity as a value that should be expressed through concrete actions, and said the PCT wanted to begin the year with a practical commitment.
Her remarks placed the initiative in a broader message about community support, with the delegation portraying the food deliveries as part of an approach that connects political organisation to everyday social concerns.
Message to militants amid election-season debate
At the end of the tour, Issongo urged militants to remain confident and to support the party. She warned against, in her words, being “lulled by the illusions” of those seeking to win support ahead of the presidential election.
She also said that in Congo, “there is only one leading party: the PCT,” and linked the day’s action to the party’s slogan, “Everything for the people, nothing but for the people,” describing it as consistent with the gesture made toward care institutions.
Delegation members named by the party
The delegation included Faustin Elenga, the PCT secretary in charge of organisation and mobilisation, and Parfait Iloki, the permanent secretary responsible for communication and new information technologies.
The visit, as reported by ACI, ended after the series of deliveries across the targeted facilities, with organisers emphasising the symbolic and practical importance of bringing food support directly to the institutions.
